Recently in my Principles of PR class, we talked about a case study on Britney Spears and the ethics behind her meltdown and pending trial with Sam Lufti (her former manager). The story behind the article is that Lutfi is trying to sue Spears and her family for millions of dollars. Not only is he accusing Britney's mother of lying in her book about him drugging and isolating Britney, but he is also looking to get some of Britney's profit from her album "Blackout" because he claims he was a key player in the albums creation. This feud has been going on for years, and Lutfi also sued the family in 2009.
The whole trial is based on libel and Lufti's ethical standards of honesty. The trial has not yet been held. I felt this went well with the topic we went over a couple weeks ago in our meeting about ethics. We explored different ethical principles such as honesty and taking responsibility for your actions as a PR professional. You can find the full article about the trial and explore how this situation has many ethical red flags at: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/libel-trial-focus-britney-spears-meltdown

The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team will host Odyssey Day on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside of Squires Student Center. Odyssey Day is a nationwide event that focuses on promoting the use of sustainable energy and the creation of eco-green cars. While the event is held biennially, this is the first time HEVT will host it. HEVT is a group of mechanical engineering students who reengineer stock vehicles to make them more efficient and attractive to buyers. This year the team will showcase a Chevy Malibu and a second car that they have been working on. Individuals are encouraged to attend, free of charge, and view HEVT’s fuel-efficient EcoCar. The Public Relations Student Society of America’s Ut Prosim, a campus public relations firm, will be sponsoring a give-away of ten free bags filled with eco-friendly items, as well as sponsoring a raffle. “We are lucky enough to have a road bike that will be raffled off for all those who come to our event,” Jordan Parker, co-director of Ut Prosim, said. “Each person will receive a ticket and at the end of the day we will draw for the lucky winner.”
Parking will be available for the expected 100 attendees in the Squires parking lot and at designated parking meters in downtown Blacksburg. More information about Odyssey Day can be found at http://afvdayodyssey.org/. |
