Double tap to like, single tap to like, and 140 characters to comment. Social media has mastered the art of easy and effortless. But have users lost the feeling of competition? Instagram’s interaction rate has seen a 40% decline in the past year causing the social media site to rethink the site’s structure. The site recently announced a change in how users will view their photo-feed. The company is moving away from displaying photos on a chronological timeline with their new algorithm that allows the platform to display images based on user likability. According to Techchrunch, the average Instagram user doesn’t see 70% of what is on their newsfeed with the current chronological view. This is attributed to long hours in-between personal Instagram use and the time difference between followers across the globe. Instagram didn’t just create a new feature to be discussed in the news; it gave users an entire competition to win. The number of likes and amount of comments now means more to Instagram than the sense of fulfillment the millennial generation craves from their mobile devices. Your active use of Instagram guarantees your perpetual space in the top of your friends feed. The more they like your posts, the more they are likely to see future photos first. Instagram’s new style is also attractive to marketers. Much like Facebook ads and Pinterest’s suggested pins, Instagram’s likability algorithm allows ads to be entered into one’s feed based on their previous preferences. This catered ad technique allows companies to focus time and money on those who most likely fit their target audience. In three short months the buzzer will sound and Instagram will implement their new set-up. How does the company suggest you keep the odds forever in your favor? By posting more photos, increasing hashtag use, and participating in more challenges. Will Instagram's innovative new twist pay off? Only time will tell. Many can agree that Donald Trump is a cold-hearted big mouth, but what some don’t understand is how he has generated so much support! According to Rolling Stones magazine article, How America Made Donald Trump Unstoppable, Americans have paved the way for him to move right to the top of the political chain. A reason he has been capable of doing so is not because he has great people skills, but because he has used language that every day Americans can understand, not political jargon. When Trump speaks, people tend to want to listen, especially now because he has said so many taboo comments. People want to listen just because they are anticipating the next absurd comment, and for him, it is free publicity. Many people in the public relations field argue that all publicity is not good publicity, but for Trump, it is. Trump has had to spend little money on advertising unlike his counterparts because every time he opens his mouth, the media is there with a microphone and camera ready to broadcast it on their evening news. Although many despise the man, everyone must come to agree that he is one tough cookie. He has yet to back down when it comes to a controversial topic. He states what is on his mind, and even when someone is ready to throw punches his way, he is always there ready to throw the next punch. In the article mentioned above, the writer depicts a debate where Trump and Jeb Bush are going head to head, and Bush makes a comment about how much he adores his mother. Trump immediately attacked him saying “then your mother should be running.” Instead of Bush standing up to Trump, he becomes weak-looking and allows Trump to walk all over him—and no one wants to side with someone who can’t stand up for themselves. Somehow, Trump has gotten away with his bullying and it works for him. He has figured out a way to win over the majority of the public, and he has set himself up to win the Republican nominee. So far he has approximately 30% of the vote and according to How America Made Donald Trump Unstoppable and simple math, 30% in a 5 person race wins the whole thing! Trump’s public relations tactics according to an article in Forbes Magazine, Trump’s Winning PR Strategy, has given him a leg up on everyone. He has 3 main things that have been working for him and will continue to work for him:
All three have managed to help him discombobulate the entire political system, but it is something that many politicians should take on. Unfortunately, he has always been like this, and people were aware of it before he ran for presidency. But Trump has almost created a transparency within his campaign and the American public, and many Americans have always despised the political system because it seems like a scam. Trump seems honest because he says how he feels and doesn’t take no for an answer. Although Trump may seem like a madman at times, and it almost seems that he has made a mockery of the political system, his strategy and public relations tactics have allowed him to gain the lead for a reason.
