Late fall usually means harsh weather in Blacksburg. That's why we're migrating south this October to Orlando for the 2011 National Conference! It'll be warm; it'll be sunny; and best of all, it won't interfere with Hokie football (we have an away game that weekend)!
The National Conference will be hosted by the University of Florida from October 14-18. This year's theme, "Perception is Reality: Inspiring Effective Communications," is meant to educate and inspire young professionals to learn more about the PR field. Having attended the past two National Conferences with solid groups, we intend on coming out in full force this fall. Between all the networking opportunities and insightful information sessions, hopefully the group will still have time to catch some rays and explore the theme parks in the area. Even though Conference is still about seven months off, we still encourage all members to start thinking about attending. We are already brainstorming ideas to fund raise heavily so members can attend at a lower cost. Have any ideas? Be sure to let us know by commenting on the blog page or contacting next year's President, Sarah Kilbourne at [email protected]. For more information on the Conference, check out the website.

This year, five members of our PRSSA chapter are involved in the 2011 Bateman Case Study Competition.
Seniors Mary Wilmer and Sarah Kilbourne, junior Donna Puglisi, and sophomores Virginia Hyer and Jason Galliger are deep into the implementation phase of their campaign process. The team has been hosting multiple "Budgeting Bingo" sessions to promote financial literacy across key markets for this year's client, Ally Mutual. The team began initial research in the fall, and will continue their campaign process through the end of March, when the case studies are due. Check out the team's Facebook and Twitter pages. (Note: these pages will be deactivated as of March 8, 2011). Click here to read an article written by PRSSA member Andrea Long, on Virginia Tech's Department of Communication website. We all wish the team good luck in their competition! |
