It’s safe to say that even the creators of Snapchat are still in awe at the longevity of their app’s relevance. In keeping up with society’s demands, the ever-popular Snapchat app has released updates to take the social media platform to a new level. In-between snapping spring scenery and perfected “ugly” faces to your best friends you might have noticed some new faces on your contact list. Gone are the days when clicking on a friends name shows you their three top Snapchat friends, that is, the people who the snap the most. For privacy reasons, Snapchat has now created six classifications of Snapchat relations between users that are only seen by each individual. • Gold Heart - You're top friends: The person you send snaps to the most also sends the most to you. This is the emoji symbol for “soulmate.” • Gritted Teeth - You have a mutual best friend: The person you send snaps to the most is also who this person sends snaps to the most. Better known as, competition time. • Smile - One of your best friends: This is one of the people you send snaps to the most. Not the favorite, but they are getting there. Feel the butterflies for your budding Snapship. • Sunglasses - You have a mutual best friend: One of the people you send snaps to the most, is also one of the people this person sends snaps to most. Drop you weapons because this friendship battle isn’t too serious but it’s nice to know who is on the horizon. • Smirk - You're their best friend, but they aren't yours: You're one of the people they send snaps to the most, but the feeling isn’t mutual. This can serve as a cue to the hair flips and ego boosts or a time to re-evaluate what kind of friend you are. • Fire - You're on a “snapstreak”: You and this person have sent snaps back and forth continuously. The update also shows the number of exact days your snapstreak has lasted. So for all the dedicated Snapchat users you can wipe your brow and fret no more, scheming isn’t gone, just a little more creative.
